It can analyze and determine a patient's specific heart rhythm, determine whether the patient needs electrical defibrillation, and give electric shock defibrillation.
An automated external defibrillator, also known as an AED, is a portable emergency device for patients with cardiac arrest. It is equipped in many public places, such as airports, large shopping malls, star-rated hotels, etc. When someone is unconscious, not breathing, or has a dying sigh-like breathing, an AED is needed. After being connected to the patient's body through electrodes, it can sense the patient's cardiac electrical activity, automatically identify whether the patient has a shockable heart rhythm such as ventricular fibrillation, and perform electric shock defibrillation to terminate malignant arrhythmias and restore to normal sinus rhythm.
AED is easy to operate and can be used by non-medical professionals after training. The specific operation is divided into four steps - "turn on, stick, plug, and power on".
1. "Turn on" press the power button; AED will prompt with a voice; select adult/child mode (when the patient is under 8 years old and weighs less than 25kg, use child mode).
2. "Sticking" unbutton the patient's top to fully expose the chest; tear off the self-adhesive electrode film, and stick the electrode to the patient's chest skin according to the diagram on the instrument; (Note: The electrode must fit tightly with the patient's skin, otherwise it will affect the conductive effect.) When selecting "adult mode", use the "front and side" sticking method: one electrode is stuck to the patient's right clavicle just below (right upper chest wall), and the other is stuck to the outside of the patient's left nipple, with the midline of the electrode on the axillary line (left lower chest wall); when selecting "child mode", use the "front and back" sticking method: one electrode is stuck to the middle of the patient's front chest, and the other is stuck to the center of the patient's back (the position corresponds to the front chest electrode).
3. "Insert" Insert the electrode plug into the host jack, and the voice prompt will say: "Begin to analyze the heart rhythm, please do not touch the patient." (Some AED electrodes are pre-connected to the host, no manual connection is required) (Note: Do not touch the patient at this time, and suspend chest compression and other operations to avoid affecting the heart rhythm analysis.)
4. "Electricity" When the heart rhythm analysis is completed and it is prompted that electric shock defibrillation is required, the instrument will automatically charge. When the instrument indicator light flashes and a beep sounds, be sure to confirm again: No one is touching the patient, then quickly press the discharge button to perform an electric shock. After the electric shock is completed, do not turn off the device or remove the electrode, and immediately start chest compression and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. If the AED does not recommend electric shock after heart rhythm analysis, the rescuer needs to continue cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The AED will perform a heart rhythm analysis every 2 minutes, and the rescuer will operate according to the instrument prompts until the patient recovers heartbeat and spontaneous breathing, or emergency personnel arrive.

1. When sticking the electrode pads, the skin in the chest area should be kept dry and clean. If the patient's chest is wet and sweaty, the skin in the chest area should be wiped dry immediately.
2. The electrode pads should maintain good contact with the patient's skin. If the patient has too much chest hair, the rescuer should shave the hair quickly. If there are two sets of electrode pads, one set of electrode pads can be used to stick off the chest hair first.
3. If the patient has a pacemaker on his chest, the pacemaker should be avoided when sticking the electrode pads; if there is a plaster, it should be removed first and the skin should be wiped clean, otherwise it will affect the conductivity.
4. Do not use AED defibrillation in places where flammable and explosive gases such as oxygen and natural gas gather, or in water.
5. Children under 8 years old or weighing less than 25kg should use children's special electrode pads; in an emergency, adult electrode pads can be used instead, select "child mode", and keep a certain distance between the two electrode pads when sticking, and they cannot touch each other.
6. When there are two or more rescuers on the scene, they should cooperate in implementing cardiopulmonary resuscitation and electric defibrillation. One rescuer should continue to perform external chest compressions while the other is responsible for operating the AED.
